The RCMP only recognize 18 out of 40 estimated indigenous deaths on the Highway of Tears

Indigenous women are 12 times more likely to be murdered or go missing than any other women in Canada, and 16 times more likley than caucasian women

73% of gender diverse & two-spirited indigenous people experience some form of violence

The Numbers:

506 MMIWG cases were identified across 71 selected urban cities

128 were cases of missing indigenous women

280 were cases of murdered indigenous women

98 were cases with an “unknown status”

29 The median age of MMIWG victims

How to Raise Awareness

1. Wear RED on May 5th and post a photo on social media with the hashtag #NationalDayofAwareness #MMNWG or #MMIW
2. Host a community event in your community on May 5th
3. Host a prayer circle or candlelight vigil on May 5th
4. Post a list of names of sisters missing or murdered from your community,
5. Create a living memorial
