Kamloops & District Labour Council Rally in Supporting Striking CUPW Workers

December 7, 2024

On a chilly Friday afternoon, members of the Kamloops & District Labour Council (KDLC) came together with striking workers from the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) for a rally that showed the power of unity. With signs held high and voices calling for fairness, the message was clear: when workers stand together, we can make real change.

The rally, organized by KDLC, brought out union members from many different workplaces to support CUPW workers. This isn’t just about one union or one job—it’s about standing up for what’s right. Every worker deserves fair treatment, proper pay, and the chance to provide for their family without fear of losing their job.

What Unions Are Fighting For

Unions are not here to create conflict or take from others. We’re not against people being successful or wealthy. Instead, unions are about making sure all workers can live a good, stable life. We want fair wages, safe workplaces, and enough security to take care of our families.

Unions work to make sure workers can be part of the middle class, afford a home, and save for retirement. We don’t want luxuries; we want fairness. Workers shouldn’t have to choose between paying bills and buying groceries. Strikes, like the one CUPW workers are in now, are never easy. But sometimes, they’re the only way to make sure workers’ voices are heard and their rights are protected.

Strength in Solidarity

Friday’s rally showed the strength we have when we come together. The KDLC is proud to support CUPW workers because we know their fight is all of our fight. An injury to one is an injury to all. Whether you work at a post office, on a construction site, in a classroom, or in a hospital, we all deserve to be treated fairly.

When unions support each other, we become stronger. Together, we can make sure no worker stands alone. The rally was not just about helping CUPW—it was about showing what we can do when we stick together.

Looking Ahead

As the CUPW strike continues, KDLC will keep standing with them. We call Canada Post to listen to their workers and come to the table ready to make a fair deal. Fair pay, job security, and safe workplaces aren’t extras—they’re basic rights every worker deserves.

To all workers in Kamloops and beyond: KDLC is here for you. Together, we will keep fighting for fairness and respect for everyone. Yesterday’s rally was one step in the journey, and we’ll keep moving forward, side by side.

Together, we are stronger. Together, we can win.
