Labour Night 2024 with the Kamloops Storm (and Wiener Dog Races)

The Kamloops & District Labour Council (KDLC) in collaboration with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 993 (IBEW 993), International Union of Operating Engineers Local 115 (IUOE 115), and Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 3500 (CUPE 3500) sponsored the second annual Labour Night with the Kamloops Storm Hockey team on Saturday February 3rd. Once again members of labour unions from the Kamloops area were able to enjoy some great hockey as well as being treated to some incredible Wiener Dog Races.

In addition to being a fun night out for labour, the event also raised money for Angels Animal Rescue Society.

In addition to the four event sponsors BCGEU sponsored the 1st , 2nd and 3rd place prizes for the dog races as well as prizes for the best dressed, Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 900 (CUPE 900) sponsored five $100 gift cards to local restaurants, and Health Sciences Association (HSA) sponsored a $500 gift card to Safeway.

With a packed house, the Kamloops Storm faced off against the Sicamous Eagles in fast paced and exciting and game. The Kamloops Storm bested the Eagles with a 4 to 1 victory. The Kamloops Storm scored twice in the first period vs the Eagles’ only goal of the game. Then in the third period, Kamloops scored twice again, with one of the goals being in an open net.

During the first and second period, the over 800 strong crowd was treated to the first heats of the wiener dog races, with the final happening between the second and third period. After some tight racing and faster than you would think wiener dogs, Maggie was once again crowned the winner, for the second year in a row.

Our second annual Labour Night with the Kamloops Storm was a fantastic success. We can’t wait until Labour Night 2025.
