Kamloops & District Labour Council Continues to Support Heavy Metal Rocks in 2026
The Kamloops & District Labour Council is proud to continue supporting Heavy Metal Rocks, School District 73’s outstanding hands-on trades program that introduces local students to careers in heavy equipment and related industries.
Heavy Metal Rocks remains an important part of SD73’s Trades and Transitions programming in 2026. The program gives Grade 11 and 12 students the chance to explore careers in construction and forestry while learning directly from certified operators and industry mentors. The 2026 program takes place at the Tk’emlúps gravel pit, continuing a long-running local effort to connect young people with real opportunities in the trades.
The program is popular for good reason. Students must apply and go through an interview process, and organizers have said they hope to expand participation in future years. Heavy Metal Rocks helps students make informed decisions about their future, whether they move directly into the workforce or continue into related training and education.
Programs like this matter. Our communities depend on skilled tradespeople to build and maintain the roads, infrastructure, resource projects, and public works that keep British Columbia moving. Heavy equipment operators play a major role in that work, and introducing students to the trade early helps build the next generation of a highly skilled workforce.
The Kamloops & District Labour Council has been proud to back this initiative before, including its publicly posted $1,500 contribution to the 2024 program. Supporting Heavy Metal Rocks means supporting young workers, practical education, and the future of the trades in our region.
