A Strong Showing at Last Night’s Labour Film Night
Last night, members of the labour community gathered for our Labour Film Night, hosted by the Kamloops & District Labour Council. The screening featured films from CLiFF – the Canadian Labour International Film Festival, an annual showcase of stories that highlight the struggles, victories, and lived experiences of working people around the world.
The films presented were:
- A tarea
- Working for Freedom
- Ghost Workers
- Limerent Pittsburgh
- COVID Sourdough
Each film offered a unique perspective on labour issues such as the fight for human rights, the impacts of precarious work, personal resilience, and the power of solidarity. These stories sparked thoughtful discussion among attendees, highlighting how relevant these themes remain in today’s workplaces and communities.
To add to the evening, we held three prize drawings for $100 gift cards, which added some excitement and was greatly appreciated by participants.
The atmosphere throughout the event was welcoming and collaborative. Attendees shared their own insights and experiences, focusing on how we can continue to strengthen worker rights, promote fair treatment, and build solidarity across sectors. Events like this remind us that the labour movement grows not only through bargaining and activism, but also through shared learning, culture, and community engagement.
We extend our thanks to everyone who attended, to the organizers, and to CLiFF for providing such impactful films. We look forward to continuing to host events that encourage conversation, deepen engagement, and support unity within our labour community.
Together, we are stronger.
