The KDLC Celebrates International Women’s Day
The KDLC Women’s Committee is partnering with the Kamloops Sexual Assault Centre to provide “Comfort Cases” to survivors of sexual assault when they attend the hospital.
For survivors, the experience of sexual assault can be devastating and life altering. It takes courage to go to the hospital for medical care and possibly the collection of forensic evidence. Survivors’ clothing may be part of that evidence, leaving them with nothing to wear home. Their clothing may also be damage and unwearable. And survivors may just want the comfort of changing out of the clothing they were in at the time of the assault.
Our goal is to provide “Comfort Cases” that will be given to survivors that include a change of clothes, undergarments, footwear and other items that can contribute to providing survivors some dignity and security through this incredibly difficult process. It provides items that the survivor may not have the financial or physical means to replace. And perhaps more importantly, it shows survivors that we, as a labour community, care about them and are working to support them in meaningful ways.
We are seeking cash or donations of these items, in gender neutral colours, and encourage union logos. We hope to create at minimum, 5 small, 10 medium, 10 large, and 5 extra large comfort cases. Please indicate as soon as possible which sizes you will be providing to ensure that we have enough of everything.
Deadline for donations is March 8, 2018.
