A Day of Community and Celebration in McDonald Park for the 2025 Labour Day Celebration

September 3, 2025

This year’s Labour Day Picnic in McDonald Park in Kamloops was an incredible celebration of community, solidarity, and fun. Families, friends, and neighbours came together to enjoy a day filled with engaging booths, delicious food, and entertainment for all ages.

Union and Community Booths

The park was alive with activity thanks to the many booths hosted by local labour unions and community organizations. Attendees were treated to food, treats, and interactive activities while learning more about the important work being done across our region. The giveaways were a big hit, with many booths offering prizes and the Kamloops & District Labour Council holding exciting draws throughout the day. Our grand prize of a $200 gift certificate couldn’t have gone to a nicer winner.

Special Guests

We were honoured to welcome local leaders who joined us for the day. City councillors Dale Bass and Bill Sarai toured the booths with genuine interest, spending time with attendees, asking questions, and showing strong support for the community and local unions. Former councillor and current Interim Executive Director of the Kamloops Chronicle, Arjun Singh, also visited and connected with many participants. Mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson made a stop to chat with a few people and enjoy the live music.

Music and Entertainment

Dave Coalmine and his band provided outstanding music that set the perfect tone for the day. Many attendees commented on how much they loved the performance, and the lively atmosphere was impossible to miss. For the children, Sancho the clown brought laughter with his balloon animals and puppet show, while the 34th Westsyde Scouts added to the fun with their creative activities like bean bag toss, gravity race cars, and knot tying.

Youth and Community Involvement

The Kamloops Storm Hockey team deserves a special mention for volunteering their time all day. From start to finish, these incredible young men monitored the children’s fun zone and kept the bouncy structures safe and enjoyable. Their commitment and positive energy made a big difference.

It was also notable that the Kamloops NDP was the only political party with a booth at the event, engaging directly with the community throughout the day.

This Labour Day Picnic was a true reflection of what makes Kamloops strong: our workers, our unions, our families, and our community spirit. Thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, and supported this wonderful tradition.
