2025 CLC Winter School in Harrison Hot Springs

February 7, 2025

The CLC Winter School at Harrison Hot Springs was an incredible opportunity for union members from across British Columbia to come together, network, and strengthen their collective voice. Throughout the week, attendees not only engaged in their respective courses but also had the privilege of hearing from several influential speakers.

One of the highlights of the week was a speech by David Eby, the Premier of British Columbia. He addressed a range of current events, including the impact of Trump tariffs and BC’s strong response to these economic challenges. He also emphasized that BC is less dependent on trade with the United States compared to other provinces, allowing for more economic resilience. In addition, Premier Eby announced an exciting list of upcoming infrastructure and green initiatives. Much of the planned work focused on Northern BC. These projects represent significant opportunities for job creation and sustainable development in the region.

Another notable speaker was Jennifer Whiteside, the Minister of Labour for British Columbia. She spoke passionately about the crucial relationship between organized labour, the NDP, and the provincial government. Whiteside underscored the importance of collaboration in shaping policies that protect and empower workers, ensuring that labour rights remain at the forefront of government priorities.

Beyond the informative classes and inspiring speakers, the Winter School provided a space for union members to build new connections and reinforce existing ones. The opportunity to engage with fellow union activists encouraging a sense of solidarity and strengthened the collective commitment to advocating for workers’ rights across the province.

The CLC Winter School once again proved to be an invaluable experience, reinforcing the power of education, engagement, and unity in the labour movement.

We look forward to carrying forward the knowledge and connections gained during this week into our workplaces and communities.
