Honouring Those Who Served at the Remembrance Day Ceremony in Kamloops
On November 11, the Kamloops & District Labour Council joined the community at the cenotaph in Riverside Park to take part in the annual Remembrance Day ceremony. It was a bright but solemn morning as people from every corner of our community came together to pay their respects to those who have served and sacrificed for Canada.
Many unions were represented, standing shoulder to shoulder with members of the Canadian Armed Forces, RCMP, Kamloops Fire and Rescue, cadet groups, and other community organizations. Together, we paused to remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in the name of peace, freedom, and justice. Their courage and dedication continue to inspire us today.
The Labour Council was proud to lay a wreath on behalf of all working people in the Kamloops region. The act of remembrance is an important part of who we are. It reminds us that the rights and freedoms we value did not come easily. Many who served in times of war were also part of the labour movement when they returned home, helping to build fairer workplaces and stronger communities.
As we reflect on their service, we also honour those who continue to serve our country, both at home and abroad. Their commitment to protecting others, often at great personal cost, deserves our deepest gratitude.
Remembrance Day is not only about looking back at the past. It is also about renewing our promise to work for a more just and peaceful future. The principles of solidarity, equality, and compassion that guide the labour movement are closely tied to the same values that our veterans defended.
We thank everyone who attended the ceremony, from the wreath layers to the musicians, speakers, and volunteers who helped make the event meaningful. We also recognize the families who stood together in quiet reflection, keeping the memory of their loved ones alive.
Let us continue to remember, not only on November 11, but throughout the year, by building communities that reflect the values for which so many have sacrificed.
